Meet Our Spring 2022 Soloists

On May 1 at 3 PM at St. George’s Church, 7 Rutherford Place and live streamed online, St. George’s Choral Society will present a concert of Brahms’ Nanie and his four-hand piano arrangement of Ein deutsches Requiem. Nänie will be sung by the chamber singers, and the Requiem by the full ensemble. Tickets are $30, available online and at the door.

The concert will feature two exceptional vocal soloists:

Rebecca Farley, American soprano, has been praised for her poise (Opera News), her "fine, flexible soprano" (Parterre Box), and her "filigree phrasing" (Scoop New Zealand). Farley has appeared as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, and in theaters all over the world in repertoire such as Bach's Magnificat and Weihnachts-Oratorium, solo cantatas of Bach and Handel, and in premieres such as Angela Rice's Thy Will Be Done, Johnathan Breit's Der Zippelfaggotist, and Sherry Wood's Mara: A Chamber Opera. As an opera singer, she made her west coast debut at the Granada Theatre as Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by James Conlon. This production led to her being invited to sing Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Lyric Opera of Kansas City), conducted by musicologist and Mozart expert Dame Jane Glover. She will be reunited with Maestro Glover this season when she will sing with the maestro's own ensemble, Music of the Baroque, as the soprano soloist in Haydn’s Creation Mass. Edmund Milly brings “perfect diction” (Los Angeles Times) and “mellifluous” tone (San Francisco Chronicle) to every performance. Increasingly in demand as a soloist, he has recently shared the stage with Bach Akademie Charlotte, the Oregon Bach Festival, the Thirteen, BaRock Band, the Folger Consort, and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, and has also been heard internationally on BBC and CBC. Equally well adapted to working within an ensemble, he enjoys contributing his voice to the Polyphonists, the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Washington Bach Consort, the U.S. Army Chorus, Mark Morris Dance Group, Clarion Choir, and many others. A devoted performer of Bach, Edmund’s portrayal of Jesus in the St. John Passion has been described as “authoritative and confident” (Seen and Heard International), and he has performed over 70 of the cantatas.
